Socrates Academy: Dog Whistle Racism

Socrates Academy(3/13/08):

Dog Whistle Racism

When Geraldine Ferraro said that Barack Obama was lucky to be who he was, it said a lot more about her (and the mindset of Liberals) than she thought. Obama’s reaction says even more about him and the way he would behave in office.

She told us that she views people through the lens of identity, but he showed that he does even more so. His reaction demonstrated his hypersensitivity, so that an Obama Administration would be four long years of unfettered political correctness.

Morons.org: Dog Whistle Racism?

Morons.org(7/31/08):

Dog Whistle Racism?

So over the past couple of weeks there has been an emerging narrative in the media that Obama is “arrogant” or “presumptuous.” This narrative has arisen out of the fact that in order to convince people that he is capable of being President, Obama has been acting Presidential: holding panels with leading economists, touring abroad to visit with world leaders, etc. Apparently Presidential candidates are not allowed to try to convince people that they can be President with their actions. All they can do is say they can be President.

DailyKos: Let’s shut up about dog whistle racism

DailyKos(8/13/08):

Let’s shut up about dog whistle racism

“Dog whistle” has become a very overused phrase here, and we should let it go. It’s really bad campaign strategy to call Republican attack ads racist, if they aren’t clearly racist. It makes it look like we’re the ones who can’t win the argument so we resort to name calling. Any effort we make to explain to the masses how a seemingly innocent campaign commercial is coded racism, is an effort we would be better off using to explain to the masses why they should support our liberal positions.

The purpose of dog whistle racism is to tell racist voters that they should vote for you, not the other guy. You don’t need it if you are running against a black guy, then the racists are already going to vote for you. It won’t help you win voters who weren’t planning to vote based on race. The Republican campaign isn’t using dog whistle racism, because they don’t have to.

NY Times: Immigration issues resurface on some state ballots

NY Times(9/3/08):

Immigration issues resurface on some state ballots

In a high school classroom, Xavier Chavez is trying to teach a group of restless teenagers about Manifest Destiny — the 19th century belief that the United States was divinely fated to stretch from sea to shining sea.

But these students are children of immigrants, and they first have to learn English. They might soon have to learn it faster if Oregon voters approve a ballot measure in November to limit the amount of time students can spend in English-as-a-second-language classes.

The proposal, modeled after similar laws in California, Arizona and Massachusetts, is one of a handful of immigration-related ballot measures that will appear this fall on state and local ballots across the nation.

USA Today: Armey: ‘Bubba vote’ to hurt Obama

USA Today(9/3/08):

Armey: ‘Bubba vote’ to hurt Obama

The “Bubba vote” and underlying racism will hurt Democrat Barack Obama in key battleground states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, former House majority leader Dick Armey said Wednesday. “The Bubba vote is there and it’s very real and it is everywhere,” Armey told reporters for USA TODAY and Gannett News Service. “There’s an awful lot of people in America, bless their heart, who simply are not emotionally prepared to vote for a black man in this country.

Elitism Bait

The entire Sarah Palin pick comes down to one thing–the hope that George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, or (God forbid) Will.I.Am. will make a joke about moose-burgers. At that point, the McCain campaign will cut an ad which says They’re laughing at you. Vote for McCain and you can show the world….They’re all gonna laugh at you! Welcome to Victimology 101–the White Working Class Edition. Oh well. I personally prefer this ad. More please.
